About The Course
Prepare for a new spin on the four forces of flight by side-stepping the standard wind-tunnel approach and dive in to rotary-wing aviation! Fixed-wing aeronautical engineering problems using the wind tunnel generally assume thrust, and to a lesser extent drag, are given. In this course, nothing is assumed- you'll dive into the science behind the lift required to overcome weight, and the thrust required to overcome drag- and you'll gain practical, hands-on experience seeing the science work!
What You'll Learn
The engineering and scientific principles introduced in this course include:
- 4 Forces of Flight: Lift, Weight, Thrust, and Drag
- Conservation of Energy, Mass Flow Rate, Bernoulli's Principle
- Angular Velocities and how they Affect the Lift Profile
- Material Properties, Stress/Strain, and Finite Element Analysis
- Power Required to Overcome Drag
- Specifying Engineering Components
- PID Controls - Proportional, Integral, and Derivative
- Physical Computing - Code with Python and/or C++ Programming Language
